Earthquake!
By scampbel13 | April 18, 2008
Felt our first earthquake today. Around 4:36 am Central time, Shannon, Kelly, Steph and I all woke up when the house started shaking… Being in the midwest, the first thing we thought was… Tornado!!! But there was no wind sound, only shaking. That’s when it occurred to us that we were experiencing our first earthquake. It was a little scary, but luckily, it was located 120 miles east of St. Louis, so it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. However, it was a 5.4 on the Richter scale, so we felt it. Everything shook for about 20 seconds. Somehow, Steph knew it was an earthquake right away and ran to her doorway (is that the right thing to do?). Kelly ran to our room scared and Robbie slept through it… He never felt a thing. Luckily, there was no damage, only frightened people… Hope you are all well! Scott

Earthquakes? In the midwest…bizarre. I wouldn’t have thought of that either!
I haven’t experienced an earthquake since I left California in 1989.
Maybe next time they’ll all sleep through it.
And yes, the doorway is “correct”, it’s a stronger area due the extra framing and nothing that can fall on you…at least that’s what I understand.

Just had another earthquake. A 4.5 struck around 10:14 am Central time at almost the same location as before in Illinois. Shook everything up again… No damage. I do not like the shaking!
